A South African with a passion for developing sustainable and meaningful architecture, Annelide Sherratt is the Head of the Green Building Certifications Department at Solid Green Consulting.
She has a Master’s of Science in Energy and Sustainable Building Design from the University of De Montfort in Leicester, an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Johannesburg and is a qualified Professional Senior Architectural Technologist.
Annelide has over 10 years of experience in the industry and has completed more than 40 certifications with Green Star SA and LEED. Annelidé specialises in projects targeting high-level sustainability ratings as cost-effective as possible. She is a GBCSA Green Star Accredited Professional in all Green Star tools, the WELL tool, the EDGE tool, and a LEED AP in New Building Design and Construction, Neighbourhoods and Interiors. She achieved the GBCSA awards in 2018 for the following categories: Highest Rated Building for 78 Corlett Drive (Winner), Net Zero Innovation- Vleihuis Multi-Unit Residential Development (Runner-up) and Established Green Star (Runner-up).
Bertie Lourens is the Chief Executive Officer of WastePlan, an on-site Waste Management and Recycling Company that was started in the Western Cape in 2004.
WastePlan currently employs over 2300 staff and services over 650 sites in the industrial, property, commercial, hospitality, food & beverage, education and medical industries in most of the major cities in South Africa.

Founder and CEO, Maskam Water
Gerhard Cronje, CEO of Maskam Water completed his matric at Hoërskool Albertinia in 1989, followed by one-year compulsory military service (SADF). He then studied Mechanical Engineering at the Cape Technicon (now Cape Town University of Technology). While studying he started working part-time at XPS Service, a courier company. The courier industry was quite attractive and Gerhard decided to stay at XPS full-time. During his 8 ¾ years at XPS, he worked in the operations department, sales, sales management and senior management, ending his career as a member of MANCO.
In 1994, Gerhard founded Eikestad Irrigation, in 1998 he founded a commercial cleaning company and in 1999 he resigned from XPS to focus all of his attention on these two companies.
After selling the cleaning business in 2005, Gerhard was looking for a new challenge. That challenge came along when one of his irrigation customers asked him to help source an on-site sewage treatment plant. In the same year, the US Commercial Services contacted Gerhard to import and distribute Zoeller pumps from the USA. Gerhard soon realised the potential of this, and Maskam Water was born in 2010.
Sustainable Development, and protecting Mother Nature have always been high on Gerhard’s list. His experience and partnership with Suppliers worldwide, have helped pave the way for tremendous success throughout Africa. At the end of 2019, Gerhard exchanged the city life for the peace of the platteland and moved to Vanrhynsdorp where the Head Office and factory of Maskam Water are run.

Ingo joined the STIEBEL ELTRON group in 2005 and took over the position in South Africa in 2021.

Jackie May is the director, founder and editor of Twyg, a magazine focused on storytelling, content production and networking to champion kinder, fairer, inclusive and nature-friendly futures.
In 2019 Jackie launched the annual Twyg Sustainable Fashion Awards to celebrate designers using circular and sustainable practices. In collaboration with The Beach Co-op, Twyg runs an annual campaign to raise awareness about problem plastics. Twyg hosts a monthly clothing Swap&Mend activation event in Cape Town. Jackie launched the Africa Textile Talks in 2021 and co-founded the Refashion Lab. Refashion Lab aims to support a viable textile waste recycling system that creates jobs, reduces textile to landfill and creates awareness about circular design and conscious consumption.
Previously Jackie worked in multiple big and medium-sized mainstream media organisations. She edited the South African edition of the international women’s fashion magazine, MARIE CLAIRE and was the Cape editor of the national newspaper, The Times. Jackie holds an MA in Philosophy from the University of London and currently is an MPhil student at Stellenbosch’s Centre of Sustainable Transitions, researching cotton farming.

As a community architect, researcher, and social innovator in sustainable development, Kevin’s architectural studies and professional experience span from Kenya to South Africa with global collaborations in the USA, Germany, and India. His focus has led him into community development work in South Africa, where he is currently based.
His doctoral research in the use of alternative design and technology as an agent toward social change merges the environmental aspects with the socioeconomic impact and applies a transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach. It engages several academic institutions; Nelson Mandela University (SA), Cape Peninsula University of Technology (SA), University of Cape Town, Wismar University (Germany) and Lawrence Technological University (USA).
His work emerges from the foundation of a people-centred design approach responding to the urgency towards social justice through activism and works with business, environment, and technical studies for a holistic application.
He has been nominated for the 2017 Design Indaba’s MBOISA (Most Beautiful Object in South Africa). In 2018 he won the 2018 SAPOA Winner – Overall Transformational Award. In 2019 his education centre design won the 2019 SAIA (South African Institute of Architects) Regional Award. He has been featured in Architectural Record Magazine, Metropolis Magazine, The Guardian UK, and Mail & Guardian to mention a few. He has delivered buildings for blue chip developers like Bloomberg Place, Battersea Power Station and Kings Cross redevelopments. Matthew is an expert in green infrastructure and sustainable urban development. He has a Master’s in City and Regional Planning, with undergraduate degrees in Economics and Environmental Science.
Matthew is currently the Acting CEO and Infrastructure Executive at the Atlantis Greentech Special Economic Zone. Prior to this, he was the CEO of MCA Urban and Environmental Planners a technical advisory company focusing on green urban infrastructure policy, planning and development.

Michael Labacher has over 15 years of experience and expertise in the Industrial and Speciality gases sector in South Africa and has become a prominent figure in the HVAC industry. As his career has developed so has his passion for environmentally friendly solutions. He is now an ambassador for the reduction of ODP and GWP releases into the atmosphere.
With an outgoing personality, Michael is recognised as an informative and key speaker at multiple conferences, events and expos on a variety of subjects, in particular those that pertain to environmental regulations, the circular economy and solutions that govern and drive a greener future.
Throughout his career, he has experienced significant changes in the specialist gases industry and his knowledge of the products, their application and best practices for their recycling is unrivalled.

As a professionally registered architect in Cape Town, Philip specialises in housing, theory and using existing urban fabric to create green solutions.
He completed his Master’s in Architecture degree (Professional) in 2009 at the University of Pretoria, receiving the Johann Basson Energy Efficient Design Prize for his thesis being selected as the most energy-efficient design. After working for the boutique architectural design firm Mathews & Associates Architects for four and a half years, he started his own firm in Pretoria. In 2016 he moved to Cape Town to join Osmond Lange Architects, one of South Africa’s oldest commercial architecture firms, with offices across the country.
Besides working on various architectural projects, including award-winning designs, he has also been involved in numerous art and academic activities, including conferences, exhibitions, articles, books, teaching and external examinations.

Priscilla de Comarmond is a Senior Professional Officer within the Sustainable Energy Markets Department, Energy Directorate, City of Cape Town.
She has an Atmospheric Science honours degree from the University of Cape Town and is an internationally accredited Greenhouse Gas Emissions inventory specialist, and is also an accredited professional with GBCSA for green star rating of existing buildings. Priscilla leads the work relating to energy and carbon data management within the City and manages the SmartFacility application, which is a web-based internal resource data management system that monitors and tracks electricity, water and solar data from various metering devices installed within municipal facilities.
